the power of green

One of my favorite authors, Thomas L. Friedman contributed an article in this weeks New York TImes Magazine that is outstanding. It is a long article and very much worth the read. The Power of Green is one of the best articles I have read recently in the category of win-win as far as global warming and business supporting the correction of it. The article is too long to take it point by point but there are several places where he points out things that are so common senseical it's amazing. In the following he is talking about the next president and how they are going to have to be more aware of and work towards green solutions;

"Equally important, presidential candidates need to help Americans understand that green is not about cutting back. Its about creating a new cornucopia of abundance for the next generation by inventing a whole new industry. Its about getting our best brains out of hedge funds and into innovations that will not only give us the clean-power industrial assets to preserve our American dream but also give us the technologies that billions of others need to realize their own dreams without destroying the planet. Its about making America safer by breaking our addiction to a fuel that is powering regimes deeply hostile to our values. And, finally, its about making America the global environmental leader, instead of laggard, which as Schwarzenegger argues would create a very powerful side product. Those who dislike America because of Iraq, he explained, would at least be able to say, Well, I dont like them for the war, but I do like them because they show such unbelievable leadership not just with their blue jeans and hamburgers but with the environment. People will love us for that. Thats not existing right now."

I don't wear jeans or eat hamburgers but I agree totally with his and Arnolds statements. Another thing Mr. Friedman states several times is the need to get the "green" attitude in our DNA. We are already somewhat interrelated - "Hemoglobin is the protein in our red blood cells which binds with oxygen and gives blood its bright red color. Chlorophyll cells are nearly identical to hemoglobin, with one exception: Chlorophyll has a magnesium molecule at its center while hemoglobin has an iron molecule at the center of it. This is important because magnesium is essential for the heart to function properly. Every time our heart beats, it is utilizing magnesium to do so. Chlorophyll is effective against anemia and stimulates the production of red blood cells in the body" - according to information at a blood donor site.
