saturday water spirals

If we take care of the moments, the years will take care of themselves.

Be not the slave of your own past. Plunge into the sublime seas, dive deep and swim far, so you shall come back with self-respect, with new power, with an advanced experience that shall explain and overlook the old.

software

With upgraded computers comes new software. I used to use Adobe's Photo deluxe for picture processing. I tried to download the new Adobe Elements program but it didn't download correctly and wasn't installing so I deleted it. I have been using Paint.net. It is a little different from what I'm used to and it does some things much better than the program that I was using. Paint.net is shareware, and so far, I like it very much.

I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.

Steven Spielberg's Shoah Foundation is expanding beyond the Holocaust to document survivor memories from other atrocities.
After collecting 52,000 interviews, the filmmaker's unprecedented effort to record the stories of those who survived Nazi persecution during World War II is now applying the mantra "Never forget" to more recent acts of genocide and oppression.

"Now we ask ourselves: How do we make this vision a priority in communities all across the world?" Spielberg said.

The announcement came Monday night at a benefit dinner featuring Spielberg and other leaders from the Shoah organization, attended by hundreds of Hollywood power brokers.

"Our work on the Holocaust will continue. But we plan to join it now to work with others around the world," said Douglas Greenberg, executive director of the Shoah Foundation Institute at the University of Southern California. "Our commitment is to combat (violence and racism) wherever and however we can — no matter who the victims are."

two divorces

As Victor Hernandez in the EPT commented last week; "Unless you had your head in the sand or were half-baked last week, you've probably heard the fallout from the tirade of threats Alec Baldwin made to his 11-year-old daughter, Ireland. Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger and Marie Osmond and Brian Blosil have two very different divorces. Alec divorced years ago and Marie more recently.

Marie's comments to the press are this; "We ask the public and the press to please respect our privacy in this matter as we focus on caring for our children and guiding them through this difficult time for our family. Though our marriage is ending, we continue to have a very amicable relationship," the couple said in a statement. "Our marriage has always been a faithful one, and neither of us is assigning fault for the divorce. Our children, as always, are our top priority and in our deep love for them we will continue to jointly fulfill our roles as active parents in their daily lives."

Anyone who had divorced or come even close knows how painful it can be. It is hard to see your children show their love and admiration for someone you have found it impossible to live with. In two of my many marriages I made a choice to take the "Marie Osmond" path. It doesn't mean that you just ignore the reasons that you split in the first place it just means that you make a conscious choice to be an adult about it. You don't deny or stuff your feelings but you don't use your kids to express them. It is hard but the kids benefit in the long run and that makes it worth it. It also will strengthen your relationship with your children. They are not as ignorant as we take them to be and when they get older will have the ability to see the faults and goodness of both of their parents if they are allowed to.

I think it was Bette Davis who said that being older is not for the fainthearted.
