British Columbia has joined the Western Regional Climate Action Imitative. From Grist and Huffington Post there are several good blog stories about this new action. That totals 17 states and a province that have joined this movement. There were several good comments in reply to this in Huffington Post. They also highlight a problem in the green movement.
One of the comments states; Lets hope that these regional efforts are worthy of their cause. We don't need more alarmist hype and holier-than-though directives coming down to us. Part of the focus of such initiatives should be to educate the public in realistic terms what is going on with the atmosphere. There is a deeply ingrained sense that climate doesn't change and this is not true at all. There is also an urge to rush into action, no matter what that action is. Such high-energy responses will just be a waste of time. If humans play a role in climate change, don't come out and tell us: "the science is in, the debate is over." We need a true sense of what processes are taking place and where humans fit into the overall scenario."
Holier-than-thou is something that turns everyone off. When I first became a vegetarian over 25 years ago it was in response to health concerns. When I became aware (through reading) of the impact that a meat based diet had on the environment, animal kingdom and my health I made the steps necessary to make a change in my lifestyle that would support my belief system. It did not come about from people shouting in my face and criticizing me. People are getting that in so many areas that some of them are getting tired of the whole issue, health, environment and politics. It sounds like Boxorox might be one of those.
